They replied, "It's sung by a court singer." "What is her name?" King Zhuang inquired. "I do not know," they answered. "I wish to hear her sing," said King Zhuang. "The singer is afraid of punishment and dare not sing," the attendants said. "Command her to sing," King Zhuang insisted. The singer then began to sing, "While the king is enjoying his banquet, why should the ministers worry? I wish to sing a song to praise our king." Upon hearing this, King Zhuang remained silent. His attendants asked, "Why are you not speaking, Your Majesty?" King Zhuang replied, "I heard the singer's song and believe her heart must be full of resentment. That's why I didn't speak." He then ordered, "Give her some wine." After the singer finished drinking, she left, her hairpins removed.
